On December 7th, 18 of our older students visited the nearby senior citizens home to perform some Christmas songs for the residents.

Every year at Halloween we are given a warm reception when we visit and show off our costumes and sing some songs, and we were happy to have an opportunity to bring some Christmas spirit to the cheerful residents of Kotobukiso

七夕

We have been pretty lucky this year with the rainy season, with plenty of sunny days for us to play outside in the garden and in the pool.

Early summer in Japan means Tanabata, and the star festival is one of the major events held throughout the year at Beanstalk International School. You can read the story of Tanabata here, in our Tanabata post from last year.

Spring field trips 2011

mosaic-kodomoland
Springtime is a great time for field trips, and after our recent annual trip to Higashiyama zoo, we went to a few more places in the beautiful Spring weather, before it gets too hot.

Robby and Deedee classes recently went on an excursion to two places-  Todagawa Kodomo Land, and Nagoya Port. As you can see from the photos, everybody had a great time.

2011 Zoo Trip Report

On Friday last week we were very lucky to have fantastic weather for our annual trip to Higashiyama Zoo. Despite it being mid-Spring, it was quite warm and a perfect day for a trip to the zoo.zoo 2011 mosaic

The oldest class, Deedee Deer Class traveled to the zoo from Ueda by subway, which entailed changing trains twice and riding three different train lines. Despite the trains being very full due to peak hour, the children had no problems whatsoever  getting on and off the trains and were very well behaved.

Busy final month of school year 2010

We had a very busy month at the end of the 2010 school year at Beanstalk International School

missyclass_yearend_2010

As we approached the end of the 2010 school year, with the graduation of the upper Deedee Deer class looming, we shared many fun activities throughout March that we think will make treasured memories for the students and also for their parents.

Hinamatsuri (Girls Festival)

Hinamatsuri craft
For the Hinamatsuri festival (March 3) we all made beautiful Odairi sama and Ohina sama dolls, for displaying them according to a custom that started during the Heian era.

Hinamatsuri is also known as Girl’s Day in Japan, and you can see from the look on the boy’s faces below that they were waiting for Boy’s Day which is May 5th.

The boys don't look too happy with their Hinamatsuri craft :)

Farewell trip

Throughout the year, the Deedee Deer and Robby Rabbit classes took part in a lot of activities together and some strong friendships were formed. So for this year’s farewell trip, Robby Rabbit class came along to enjoy one last excursion as a group before some of their friends graduated.

Year End performance practice

This year during the year end/graduation party, in addition to our usual musical and dance numbers, we decided to challenge ourselves and put on a play!
2010 end of school year performanceThe name of the play was “Stone Soup” and the students put a lot of hard work into practicing their lines.  Of course they also practiced the songs and dances, as you can see below.

2011 Farewell Excursion

On Thursday March 10th, Robby Rabbit and Deedee Deer classes went on a field trip to Kuragaike Park and the nearby Toyota City Traffic Safety and Learning Center.
traffic_safety_mosiac

It was a lovely spring day, if a little cool. First we went to Kuragaike Park and played for a while and had lunch.

After lunch we moved to the Toyota City Traffic Safety and Learning Center where we learned things like how to cross the street safely, and also about railway crossings.

There was a real-size model town with streets, houses, shops, roads and even a railway and rail crossing.
2011 Farewell Field Trip

Sports Day 2011

Last Saturday, January 22nd, we held our annual Beanstalk International School Sports day Festival.
Sports Day 2011

Many schools throughout Japan hold their sports festivals in October during regular school hours, however we decided to hold ours on a Saturday so that as many hard-working parents as possible could attend.
Happily for us and the children, many mothers, fathers, siblings and even grandparents were able to attend and participate in many games and races.

In the afternoon the parents and grandparents were treated to a display of athletic ability as the children showed off what they have learned on the horizontal bars and mats.
Sports Day 2011

After the games were over we had a drum performance from the Beanstalk Drum Company where they played some favorites we have heard before but also debuted a new song that they practiced just for this event; Glen Miller’s “In the Mood”, it was a fantastic rendition complete with cute little dance moves.

Sports Day 2011 Drums

We ended the event with a fun dance party where all the students, their families and the teachers danced together for a number of songs. It was a great time and we can’t wait for next year’s sports day.
