夏休み中に実施しているサマースクールも、後半にさしかかりました。今回も名古屋市はもとより、愛知県外からもたくさんのお友達が参加してくれています。本日はこちらに前半のトリップや、通常スクールでのご様子を紹介いたします。

ランチパーティーでは、自分たちで作ったお料理を食べました。当日の献立には、”Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs”というストーリーに出てくる、ミートボールスパゲティーを選びました。当日は、とっても美味しく出来上がり、”Can I have seconds,please?”の声が続きました。
We had a lunch party in July, and based our lunch on the book “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs”. The students all enjoyed making and eating a lunch based on the humorous book.

毎年恒例のモリコロトリップでは、昆虫採集と虫笛つくりにチャレンジしました。

サマースクール 2014

ビーンストークでは、今年もサマースクールを開校いたします。下記の日程より最低3日から全日までお好きな日を選んでいただけます。

今回ビーンストークが用意した総合テーマは「クラシック•ストーリーズ」です。いろいろな国で昔から語り継がれている物語や、各教師が心に残っているストーリーを取り上げ、年長さん以上はジャーナルを書くだけではなく、クリエイティブ•ライティングにも挑戦します。年中以下のお友達はZoo-phonicsを用い「読み•書き」の練習を行い、将来自分でストーリーが書けるようになるための下地作りに励みます。

ビーンストークのサマースクールは、室内での勉強ばかりではなく、屋外でのプールタイムやトリップ等お子さまに楽しい夏の思い出となるメモラブルなアクティビティーがいっぱいです。毎回名古屋市内はもとより、愛知県外からもリピーターにお越しいただける人気のプログラムです。

It’s that time of year again! Beanstalk International School will open its doors for Summer School starting July 21st! We have 4 1-week sessions each with a different theme based in classic children’s stories. In addition to our math and reading practice, we will be doing lots of fun activities like swimming in the pool, arts and crafts, cooking, and going on trips to places like the Chubu Centrair Airport and even an overnight camping trip for older students! Applications for Beanstalk International School 2011 Summer School program are now open.

Our summer school program is held in an all English environment and is very popular with students from not only Nagoya and throughout Aichi prefecture, but also students from the Kanto (Tokyo) and Kansai (Osaka) regions.

Places in our all English summer school are of course limited to ensure quality teacher:student ratios and demand has exceeded supply for the past 3 years. With this in mind we have added a fifth summer school session this year to try and meet the growing demand.

The theme this year is “Things Around Us”, which is broken into smaller concepts each week. The session dates and themes, as well as special field trips are outlined below:

  • 1st Session 7/18~7/22The Seven Seas. On Tuesday the 19th we will take a trip to Minami Chita Beachland. If it rains we will go to the aquarium.
  • 2nd Session 7/25~7/29Things you find in the country. Thursday 28th we will take a trip to Morikoro Park.
  • 3rd Session 8/1~8/5Things you will find in the city. We will put on a dramatic play and create a little restaurant in the school.
  • 4th Session 8/22~8/26Things you will find in the house. We will do some cooking on the Thursday the 25th.
  • 5th Session 8/29~8/31Things in Space. We will go to the Science Museum on Tuesday the 30th.

Overnight pajama party!

One Friday in the middle of summer school, we had our first ever overnight pajama party at Beanstalk International School.

Yakisoba is a popular food during summer in Japan. It is usually cooked at a BBQ, but we cooked it indoors. Everybody had a hand in the cooking and it was delicious.  We had fresh fruits for dessert. Yummy!

After dinner it was time to move out into the garden and let off fireworks. Everybody took turns holding the little Japanese firecrackers. There was a lot of excitement, but also a lot of smoke.

After the fireworks it was time to break out the pajamas and get ready for a story while lying in bed. The story was Can’t you sleep little bear?, but as you can see, everybody got sleepier and sleepier……

Until one by one, everybody fell fast asleep and slept all the way through till the morning. It was fresh faces in the morning but check out the bed hair!

We had a great time at Beanstalk International School’s first ever pajama slumber party and are looking forward to hopefully doing it again soon.

Summer School 2010 update

本日は7月19日よりスタートしたサマースクールの途中経過をご覧いただきます。今年は、「私たちを取り巻く環境」というメインテーマのもと、毎週ひとつずつサブ•テーマを設け、テーマに沿ったアクティビティーを実施しています。

We are now in the middle of our 2010 Nagoya summer school program. The theme this year is “Our environment”, with each of the 4 sessions concentrating on a subtheme.

1st Session

1st セッションでは、「トロピカル•アイランド」のテーマに沿って、沖縄のドーナツ「サーターアンダギー」を作ってお土産に持ち帰りました。

The theme of the first session of summer school was Tropical Islands”.  Okinawa is a tropical island in Japan, so we learned about that. We also made sata andagi, which are sweet deep fried buns of dough similar to doughnuts, native to Okinawa.

We all took turns at different stages of preparing them and they made great presents to take home at the end of the day.

Among the activities in the gym was an obstacle course relay race.

2nd session

2nd セッションでは「海の生物」をたくさん学習し、名古屋港水族館への校外学習も楽しみました。

Marine life was the theme of the second session, and we went for an excursion to the Nagoya Aquarium.

みんなの大好きなプールタイムでは、みんなの楽しそうな声が響いています。
Playing in the pool was one of the activities that the students looked forward to the most. It was a lot of fun, but also very tiring. Pool time at summer school 2010

初めての方もすぐに慣れて楽しむことができました。
We also has a lot of first time students, who, after initial nervousness, were able to relax and have a lot of fun while learning.

Zoo-phonicsを用いたリーディング＆ライティングの他、サイエンス、クッキング、算数、音楽などあらゆる科目をバランスよく配分し、１週間でサブ•テーマが完結するようにプランを組んであるため、子供たちは毎週新鮮な気持ちでクラスに臨めるようです。サマースクールも残すところ、半分となりました。最後まで短い夏を思い切りエンジョイします！

Due to places filling up quickly, we have decided to offer extra places in our popular summer school program in 2010.

One of the most popular summer school programs in Nagoya, students come from all over Aichi prefecture and also from neighboring prefectures to enjoy the All English All Day immersion environment.

Summer School dates this year are as follows:

  • 1st session: July 19th ~ July 23rd.
  • 2nd session: July 26th ~ July 30th. * We will be visiting the Nagoya aquarium on the 29th.
  • 3rd session: August 2nd ~ August 8th.
  • 4th session: August 23rd ~ August 27th.

Applications are accepted on a per week basis.

今回のテーマは「私たちを取り巻く環境」です。小さなお子供さまにとっても自然に興味をもち、周りの環境を守る気持ちを育てることは大切なことです。子供達にも解りやすい方法で導入し、興味を引き出すようリードします。

こちらでは終日英語環境で過ごしていただくことにより、生活の中から語彙や表現を覚え、母国語方式で自然と身につけていきます。それに加えZoo-phonics方式でアルファベットの音を学習し、「聞く」「話す」「読む」「書く」の4技能を育てて行きます。
一定期間続けて参加されることにより、その効果はより大きくなります。

Summer School 2009 report

Apart from swimming in the pool we are having many fun and new experiences during summer school this year.

Everybody loves ice cream especially in the summertime, and we decided to make our own ice cream blocks at summer school this year. A perfect relief in the hot Nagoya summer is a home made fresh fruit ice cream block.

We cut up lot of various fruit including bananas, oranges, grapefruits, pineapples and apples. Then we threw them all in the blender to get a nice and smooth consistency, and when that was done we poured them into ice block molds and froze them overnight.

The proof was in the pudding because the next day when we ate them outside in the garden, they were delicious!

Expanding on our tradition of introducing students to new, exciting and enriching experiences such as shuji, music classes and gym instruction, we had a very special guest come to Beanstalk to meet with everybody.
Karate master Hiromitsu Shibata, 2 assistants and a number of his students came to give our students a demonstration and also their first lesson in karate.

The large number of people and the loud shouting of the instructors was a little daunting at first but the children really got into it. They were punching and kicking and shouting and it looked like a lot of fun.

It isn’t all fun and games-(ok, it is all fun 😉 ) We also have academic themes and this year’s summer school themes are recycling and maths.

Summer School in Nagoya at Beanstalk is a lot of fun, and we still have 2 more weeks to go. We can’t wait to see what happens next. We certainly hope the weather clears up so we can get more pooltime!

Deedee Deer class visits Morikoro Park

Last week the Deedee Deer students took a field trip to Morikoro park, an ecological themed park at the site of the Aichi Expo held in 2005.

One of the activities that we enjoyed was cutting through bamboo trees to make a telescope. It certainly looked easier than it was, but everybody tried really hard and eventually were able to cut through.

Inside there were plenty of things to do from watching a robot show to investigating all the nooks and crannies of the multi-level discovery area. After a picnic lunch we rode the giant Ferris Wheel which took 15 minutes and we had fantastic views of all of Nagoya. Unfortunately it wasn’t such a clear day so we couldn’t see all the way back to our school, but we still were able to see a lots of cool things.

Everyone was well behaved and we rode the Linimo, Japan’s first maglev train service on the way home. Everybody had a great time and we are looking forward to going somewhere again soon.
