Summer School Week 3

The students learned about geology in the third week of summer school.

One of the topics was volcanoes and we set up a demonstration of how they work.

During the third week we got to visit Gamagori Inochino Umi science museum.

We took a guided tour looking at fossils showing the origins of the Earth.

We saw many examples of rock formations showing how Earth has evolved.

After the tour we went for lunch at a seaside Spanish restaurant.

We had a high quality pasta with salad and played in the spacious outdoor garden.

After lunch we visited a fantasy museum following a planned path.

The students each got a unique shell reward at the end of the museum.

Summer Camp 2018

Our summer camping trip was at Tsukiyodani – Fureaino Sato.

After the long drive from Beanstalk we stopped to have lunch at Tachibanaya Ryokan for Lunch.

We went to catch fish after lunch.

We caught so many and had them in a BBQ.

At the end of the evening we sat around a camp fire listening to stories, singing and dancing.

Our next day started off with a big breakfast and a few games.

Later that day we made shaved ice and had ice cream.

With the temperature reaching 40c we needed something cool and yummy.

We built a big somen slide in the garden and the students tried their best to catch lots of noodles.

After enjoying our somen we did a watermelon smash. Whoops, we forgot the blindfold!

Natural Science and The Sky Museum

Space and Planets

We have been feeling the Sun’s rays this summer at Beanstalk and what better topic to kick things off in summer school than the planets.

The first two weeks of our natural science theme have been about space and planets.

At the end of July Mars appeared it’s brightest and was very visible. Its closest approach to Earth was on July 31. That was the point in Mars’ orbit when it came closest to Earth. Mars was at a distance of 35.8 million miles (57.6 million kilometers).

Handa Sky Museum

Sticking with our theme of space and planets we visited the Handa Sky Museum where we learned more about the universe.

We went into a huge planetarium where we learned about our solar system and beyond.

It was a really educational day out and we came back knowing a lot more about the universe we live in.

Beanstalk Summer Holiday

Summer school 2018: part 1

Summer is already here. This is also the beginning of summer school. And we can say that its starting in the best possible way!

 

During the following weeks the school lessons will focus on space, earth sciences and oceans. With the use of books and crafts, the students are very curious at the idea of exploring such interesting subjects.

On the last days of July, Mars is closer to the Earth. This is a nice opportunity to dedicate this week to the learning of our solar system!

The students where able to learn the specifics of the different planets floating around our sun in a playful way.

Speaking of sun, those days are also perfect to take a refreshing swim in the swimming pool!

But the heat didn’t stop us in our daily practice of English.

We learned a lot about space and we had fun together. This summer promises to be exciting!

The students at Beanstalk have been cooling off in the outdoor pool. We have had lots of fun splashing around and getting the teachers wet.

Next week is the final week of the semester. We look forward to the start of summer school.

2018 Tanabata Concert

On Friday July 6 we had our traditional Tanabata concert at Beanstalk.

The children wrote their wishes for the future.

Everyone put on a great performance, showing off their singing and dancing abilities.

It was a great day and even the rain couldn’t stop us from enjoying the day.
