We all went camping during the final week of summer school.
Our first port of call was to go shopping and get some food for dinner.
When we arrived at the campsite there was a delicious curry waiting for us.
Some of us were very hungry!
To burn off some of that energy from our curry, we went swimming. The pool was lovely and cool which was a relief from the hot weather.
After swimming we went to the big field near our camp site to play a few games of capture the flag.
The student went against the teachers and claimed victory. Who knew 5-10 year olds could be so quick!
A few quick group photos after the game.
We were really sweaty!
Everyone was really hungry and we began preparing dinner.
We really enjoyed dinner. There was BBQ, yakisoba and we ate the lot!
After dinner we got a bath and into our pajamas.
Ready for a good nights sleep.
The next morning everyone was full of beans and ready for their day at the egg factory and dinosaur museum. (Which you can read about in our previous blog).
It was a great experience for everyone and we all enjoyed our time camping. We can’t wait to go again next year.
We continued to discover more about health and wellness in our second week of summer school.
Lots of Blood
What better way to learn about blood than fishing through a pool full of it!
Well fake blood.
Did you know that your blood is made up of liquid and solids!
Everyone collected all the different parts that make up our blood.
It was a messy job but we learned that blood is an intricate part of our bodies.
Flex those Muscles
Muscles are interesting things. They keep us from being a blob on the floor and enable us to move around.
It’s important to keep your muscles nice and healthy. One way is to exercise. You can go running, play soccer or you can make your own weights and start lifting those!
Another great way to keep those muscles big and strong is too fuel them with food.
Tofu Factory Trip
Protein is an essential food group to help muscles grow.
Tofu is a great source of protein and we visited a tofu factory to learn more about how it’s made.
Everyone got to make their very own container of tofu! We even got to drink some of the soy that made it.
We know that eating the right food can help keep us strong and healthy and it was a lot of fun learning more about it in our second week of summer school.
Summer is almost over, but our students have lots to share about their time at summer school!
Discover Wellness
Our theme for summer school was health and for each week we broke it done into different topics.
Our first week was all about bones and joints.
We learned all about milk and how it’s good for our bones. Speaking of bones, we made all sorts of crafts and found out lots of interesting facts.
Did you know that an adult human body has 206 bones!
It’s really important to keep your bones strong. One way you can do it is by practicing yoga.
Milk Factory Trip
We went to a milk factory to learn all about the processing and benefits of milk for young children.
Milk has lots of calcium which keeps our bones strong and this is really important for growing children.
This cow only gave us water but it was fun milking it.
Our first week of summer school was so good. Everyone came out of it knowing some much about our bones. We know how important it is to keep them strong and what food we can eat to keep them that way.
