Winter School 2019: STEAM
We will be introducing a new way of learning here at Beanstalk.
STEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math.
During Winter School we held several STEAM lessons.
Here the students learned about building boats. They had to consider: materials, buoyancy, size and shape using critical thinking.
This was team based and required students to communicate ideas and criticism in order to revise and improve their designs.
The Christmas Carnival: Research and Preparation
On the last 2 days of Winter School the students had to:
plan
and prepare.
Groups would host different attractions for the younger students.
The attractions were shops where snacks and drinks could be purchased and games that rewarded prizes.
The younger students also made a game! You had to use a scooper to collect as many balls as possible. They also made tickets which could be exchanged at the snack shops or at the game stands.
The Christmas Carnival: A day of fun and learning
The last day of Winter School was really fun.
During the day the students used a variety of communication. There was exchanging of tickets for snacks or beverages and explanations of game rules.
We will be opening up a STEAM after school class from April 2020 on Tuesdays.
