During Winter school we have our karate instructors perform Mochitsuki. Mochitsuki (餅つき) is a Japanese New Year’s tradition where you take part in the pounding of rice to make mochi .

The karate instructors give lessons to each class.

The students learn a variety of things from the karate lessons.

After all that working out, it’s time to make mochi!

Each student gets a turn at pounding the rice.

Once it’s soft and sticky, it’s ready to eat and we are ready for the New Year.

We had our annual Christmas concert this past week. This year we had performances from The Lion King and Aladdin and our main act of Bolero. The performances were exciting and amazingly well done by all. 

Everyone had worked really hard to get ready for the concert.

The first part of our Christmas concert was the drumming acts. DeeDee 2 class started things off, performing Ruslan. Next on stage were the Robby Rabbits and they performed 2 songs: Carmen and Minuet. For the final part of the classical songs section the DeeDee 1 class performed Nutcracker.

DeeDee 1 performed 2 songs from Aladdin: Arabian Nights and Friend Like Me.

DeeDee 2 also performed 2 songs: Stampede from The Lion King and our main act Bolero.

After a short break we began the second act which was singing and dancing.

Missy Mouse class treated us to 2 songs: Up on the Housetop and Feliz Navidad.

The boys and girls gave us 2 really great performances of: Hot Chocolate from the Polar Express and Shake it Off by Taylor Swift.

We had 3 more performances from Robby Rabbit and the DeeDee classes. Robby Rabbit sang: Five Gingerbread Men, DeeDee 1: North Pole Rock ‘n’ Roll and DeeDee 2: Candy Cane Lane

The Beanstalk teachers went on stage to perform in front of the students and parents. They did a dance to: Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town.

The students were happy to see their teachers on stage.

The finale of our concert was 3 Japanese songs: Awatenbo no Santa Claus, Yuki ya Konko, Oshougatsu performed by Robby Rabbit and DeeDee students. We finished off with We Wish You a Merry Christmas which had the teachers join the students on stage.

Every year during the Christmas period the Robby and DeeDee classes take a trip to perform in front of the residents of Kotobuki-sou.

After getting changed we take a few photos before heading down the road to see the residents.

Don’t you you think we look cute in our little Santa outfits?

It’s so much fun being in costume!

We made presents prior to our visit for each resident and hand them out after the performance.

We wish them a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

For thanksgiving this year we made popcorn!

We decorated bags to put our popcorn in.

Our cute designs are finished. Now it’s time to fill those bags full of fresh popcorn.

The Robby Rabbit class even made hats for the occasion.
